2022 Questionnaire

Please share briefly what inspired you to run for this office and why you feel you’re qualified for the position.

No rent control in Nevada, along with a minimum wage that no one can live off of or be happy with despite Casinos making record profits.

What policies would you propose for dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our state’s economy?

Provide as much assistance in providing vaccines and treatments to our most vulnerable in our rural communities and wherever there appears to be an uptick in cases. Make every attempt to mitigate death in the future by promoting and advocating for healthier food choices in our restaurants and schools, along with providing better health care.

With rent prices having increased over the last year, what do you think should be done to make rent affordable for more Nevadans?

Immediately call back the legislature for a vote on rent control - an overwhelming part of our population favors this, although our current Governor, nor any of the Republican candidates have mentioned this. Without rent control, a foreign owned Corporation like Crown Point in Laughlin, where I live, who raised my rent from $650 to $1150, can get away with this and profit off of the hardship of it's renters. This needs to stop now!

With Nevada’s growing population, what policies and mitigation measures would you propose to protect water?

I am a Geologist. I would get together with the Governors who are involved with the Pact for the Colorado River that was signed in 1922 and bring in water scientists and conservationists - the brightest people we can find, and bring about a new pact that represents the current water usage, not one that was signed a century ago.

Nevada has historically protected the right to abortion, including protecting the right in statute 30 years ago by a vote of the people. However, there remain barriers to access in the state. Do you support not only the right to abortion but policies that improve equitable access to abortion care?

Yes. It is my belief that no one, let alone wealthy white men, should tell a woman what she can do with her body. I am all for Planned Parenthood and giving women all access to not only birth control but access to abortions if they feel that is necessary.

The state of Nevada is facing an unprecedented shortage of health care providers – a problem that impacts every area of medicine, including the provision of sexual and reproductive care. Do you support removing the physician-only requirement and allowing advanced practice clinicians (APCs) to provide this vital care to patients with training and certification?

I am completely fine with giving every resident in Nevada good, inexpensive health care. I am all for expanding not only rural clinics for regular medicine, but also expanding clinics for Veterans and the mentally disabled. In my opinion, no one should be lacking in good medical treatment no matter where they live. I believe if we give incentives to college students, along with expanding trade schools, we can get good people to stay in Nevada. We just need to pay them well.

Comprehensive, age and developmentally appropriate, medically-accurate, inclusive sex education has been proven to improve students’ long-term health outcomes, yet it is not required that students be provided with this information in their sex-ed programs. Do you believe that public school sex-ed programs should be comprehensive, medically accurate, and inclusive?

Yes. I would require a more advanced sexual education for the 21st Century, not the outdated films from the 1950's. We need to be all inclusive in our country as each and every town, city, and county, along with each state, is inclusive, so why not include these various groups in our education, making them feel wanted and welcome, not alienated and alone.

It is well documented that patients of color face greater obstacles to obtaining sexual and reproductive health care than non-Hispanic white Americans – a pattern that results in worse health outcomes overall for BIPOC patients. Do you not only acknowledge systemic racism’s role in public health disparities but will you pursue policies that seek to rectify the historical harm of systemic racism and advance equitable access to health care?

Of course. I am a student of history and acknowledge the pattern of systemic racism in our country. This cannot be argued. It is fact. What can be argued is what we've done about the problem. I would give all people of Nevada equal access under the law - and if the law doesn't reflect equal access for all religions, ethnic groups, races, or sexual orientations, then I will change the law to provide access to these groups. The only group I will not push for equitable access for is the wealthy and Corporations. Health care is a human right, not something someone makes money off of.

Knowing that the death penalty is exorbitantly expensive, racially discriminatory, and does not promote true healing for victims family members, do you support its abolition and do you think ending the death penalty is a crucial part of criminal justice reform?

Yes. Our criminal justice system in Nevada needs some work. We need to make sure the people in our prisons actually merit being in prison. I used to believe in the death penalty, but apparently many people have not only been wrongly convicted due to minimal evidence or outright racism, but also put to death. I would be in favor of eliminating the death penalty in Nevada. One of the responsibilities of Governor is to make sure the people that are in prison are people who have no chance at rehabilitation. We need to eliminate drug crimes of use and treat drug abuse as a medical problem, not a criminal one.

True Colors United, a national organization that implements innovative solutions to youth homelessness that focus on the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ young people continues to rate Nevada as critically low, for its State Index on Youth Homelessness (in collaboration with the National Homelessness Law Center) that ranks and scores laws and policies related to preventing and addressing youth homelessness in the United States. What is your office’s plan to help fund and provide oversight regulations to youth homelessness services now that there is an abundance of housing dollars to address affordable housing and other housing needs?

Spend as much money as possible, along with taxing Corporations at a much higher rate in order to get this money. We need to address the issues as to why people become homeless, not just build more housing or shelters, although these are needed too. I would get together with those agencies and groups that represent our most needy populations and actually see what they need to not only maintain their organizations, but what they actually need to thrive. I wish to bring in 3-D printing companies who can actually build cheap, affordable 3-D printed homes for low income and the homeless. It's not like we are lacking in space, right?

What is your commitment to housing as a basic human right? Do you support the implementation of rent control policies as part of this commitment? Yes or no, and why?

Rent control is the main issue why I am running. NO POLITICIAN is mentioning this issue - I am the only candidate that will do everything in his power as Governor to bring about rent control in Nevada.

What do you plan to do to protect and help workers in Nevada from continued significant job loss projected in the next 10 years due to automation?

If a company wants to automate and remove employees, I would force them to not only increase the wages of the employees still at the company but also, in Walmart's case, where there are less checkers and we have to check ourselves out, force them to lower their prices as if they are using less checkers, they obviously are saving money and thus can lower their prices. I wish to actually promote "small businesses" - not the 100 to 400 employee business that are now considered a "small business" in Nevada. I would make it almost free to start a truly small business of around 20 employees, while making it extremely difficult to make the profit margins that the other 100 to 400 employee businesses are making now. Don't we and can't we use a bit of that profit for our state, or do we need more oligarchs and yachts for these people?

Would you support removing pepper spray from our schools given that CCSD has been unable to verify the ingredients used in the pepper spray currently being used on students in CCSD?

Yes - Why hasn't the school district verified this, and why is it necessary to carry pepper spray in a school??

Following the distribution of COVID-19 test kits, what are the policies you will implement that will ensure the recovery of Nevada’s community and economy after the pandemic?

As we are recovering as I write this, I realize most Americans have had enough of the pandemic. I would make accessible testing and treatment, while giving all residents of Nevada the choice to take advantage of them. I feel if someone wants to ignore medical treatment that could prevent them from death, it is their right. I also believe if you work for a company that requires a mask or vaccine, you must comply or just do the simple thing - find another job. I believe in a company's freedom to say what not only employees have to do but also patrons of their business - that is what makes America great. If you don't want to work there or use the business, just find another one.

Filipinos and Filipino Americans make up just 4% of registered nurses in the U.S., but account for nearly a third of all COVID-related deaths among registered nurses. What is your plan to help support our burdened healthcare system and support healthcare workers?

Give incentives to those groups that have for a long time been underrepresented. We need to make the opportunities equal for all residents of Nevada, despite your nationality, your religious preference, your political affiliation, or your sexual preference. We need to pay our "essential" workers like they actually are essential, not the people who don't do anything for the betterment of our society other than to take up space and collect a healthy paycheck.
