2022 Questionnaire
Please share briefly what inspired you to run for this office and why you feel you’re qualified for the position.
ENERGY INDEPENDENCE + TECHNOLOGY : Nevada's new energy infrastructure plan opened federal lands to renewable energy plants and energy storage facilities, prime for Bitcoin mining’s energy demand to fund the development of strong renewable energy infrastructure, leading to energy independence, high paying jobs, and lucrative tax revenue.
ECONOMY + FINANCE : The Federal Government needs to reduce debt and financial dependence on private banks and corporations, recognize deflationary Bitcoin as legal tender, and invest in productive areas of society that create wealth, like research and development, innovation, manufacturing, small businesses, and entrepreneurs thus producing more jobs, competition, and better living standards.
BORDER CRISIS + DRUG/SEX/GUN TRAFFICKING : Nevada is a major distribution hub for illicit drugs and has the highest rate of sex trafficking in the United States, including child prostitution. US gun dealers sell over 250,000 guns per year to Mexican drug mafias and Central American gangs, whom migrants are fleeing. Quenching corruption at the border requires Mexico–US cooperation.
What policies would you propose for dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on our state’s economy?
"Ghost guns" generally refers to unregistered firearms without serial numbers and typically are handmade from kits or parts, which can be purchased online. A law regulating ghost guns was passed in 2021, but is unenforceable. There is no way to stop these ghost gun kits from being sold and purchased online, and 3D printing design are open-source and easy to download. However, the law should punish children's parents with negligence and endangerment if they don't prevent access and punish prohibited persons with possession of a deadly weapon.
Nevada has historically protected the right to abortion, including protecting the right in statute 30 years ago by a vote of the people. However, there remain barriers to access in the state. Do you support not only the right to abortion but policies that improve equitable access to abortion care?
The last two years have been a very clear message that we need to do better for businesses and economic development. Attracting tech companies, innovative startups and top talent with financial incentives and low regulations make it less costly to be competitive. CNBS's 2021 study "Top States For Business", ranked Nevada 40th in the nation for its lack of technology, innovation, and access to capital.
The state of Nevada is facing an unprecedented shortage of health care providers – a problem that impacts every area of medicine, including the provision of sexual and reproductive care. Do you support removing the physician-only requirement and allowing advanced practice clinicians (APCs) to provide this vital care to patients with training and certification?
Nevada is the #1 gold producing state in the nation. While I am proud of Nevada's past, it's time to make Nevada and our nation a leader in mining digital gold - Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a digital currency that allows online payments to be made directly from one party to another without the need for a central third-party intermediary like a bank. Bitcoin is not issued by any central bank or government and is not legal tender in the US. Like physical gold, Bitcoin’s value stems from scarcity, making it a hedge against inflation.
Nevada has no gas, oil or coal but has abundant sunlight, geothermal energy and wind. In 2021, Nevada enacted energy infrastructure bills paving the way for a Bitcoin mining boom by allowing access to federal lands and offering tax abatement to build renewable energy plants and energy storage facilities. Lucrative Bitcoin mining farms incentivize power providers to build more infrastructure for energy generation, strengthening Nevada's energy grid while promoting the growth of renewable energy resources. A framework of transmission lines connecting with surrounding states would lead to energy independence, job creation and tax revenue.
Comprehensive, age and developmentally appropriate, medically-accurate, inclusive sex education has been proven to improve students’ long-term health outcomes, yet it is not required that students be provided with this information in their sex-ed programs. Do you believe that public school sex-ed programs should be comprehensive, medically accurate, and inclusive?
I believe parenthood is a decision every person and family must make for themselves, which is why I also believe a majority of adoption laws and regulations need to be eliminated. There are more parents looking to adopt than there are babies being born and many are forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars traveling to foreign countries to adopt babies. I believe that making bedside birth adoption easy and accessible will increase the number of births in the US, leading to a stabilization of our economy, reduce a woman's need to choose between her baby or her future, and many new happy families.
It is well documented that patients of color face greater obstacles to obtaining sexual and reproductive health care than non-Hispanic white Americans – a pattern that results in worse health outcomes overall for BIPOC patients. Do you not only acknowledge systemic racism’s role in public health disparities but will you pursue policies that seek to rectify the historical harm of systemic racism and advance equitable access to health care?
The U.S. has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the industrialized world. Each year in the U.S., more than 750,000 women ages 15-19 become pregnant, with more than 80 percent of these pregnancies unintended. One in four sexually active teenagers contracting a sexually transmitted disease each year. And young people ages 13-29 account for about one-third of the estimated 50,000 new HIV infections each year, the largest share of any group. I believe that in order to address these issues, public school sex-ed programs should be age appropriate, comprehensive, medically accurate, and inclusive.
Knowing that the death penalty is exorbitantly expensive, racially discriminatory, and does not promote true healing for victims family members, do you support its abolition and do you think ending the death penalty is a crucial part of criminal justice reform?
I believe systemic racism of any race in any country is a social result of ingrained ignorance and not malicious intent. Systemic racism is a significant byproduct of classism, a person's social, financial and educational standing. Myself being a woman of color and the daughter of a black African immigrant doctor, we did not experience systemic racism, discrimination, or obstacles obtaining healthcare, contrary to the way many low-income people of color do. I believe that everyone deserves equal access to healthcare and this is an issue I am eager and available to discuss first hand with victims of health care discrimination to work on finding genuine solutions to this problem.
Anti-transgender bills are being introduced across the United States that attempt to trans prevent people from having access to health care, gender re-assignment surgery, and access to sports in schools. Do you support transgender equality and access to healthcare and an athletic school experience?
The death penalty should be abolished because it is inhumane and a civilized society should not condone killing a person as a form of justice.
Nevada has a significant undocumented population, how will you ensure your office is accessible to all Nevadans?
In order to properly support the initiatives of Nevada's 27 Tribal Nations we need to provide their communities with affordable and quality health care, address the crisis of violence and addiction, invest in education, restore tribal lands, protect natural and cultural resources, and address climate change.
How would you use your office to strengthen the rights of the undocumented population and their access to their legal protections, critical public services, and quality of life?
I support defining and developing a road map to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the issuing of renewable Visa's for law abiding non-citizens such as laborers, students and athletes.
Describe your understanding of the Confidential Address Program. What would be your approach to inform community members of this program?
Temporary foreign workers are often employed for their willingness to accept lower wages. Their closed work permits are tied to employers who may not provide safe working conditions or humane practices. Employers should undergo regular inspections to ensure compliance with standard work conditions.
