2022 Questionnaire
Please share briefly what inspired you to run for this office and why you feel you’re qualified for the position.
My community has inspired me. Let's face it we as a community are hurting out there . The working men and woman in our state are being forgotten. Our children our being let down and it's time for change. I'm a father of 5 single income and I know just how tough it is week to week we deserve better and I want to help . I've been in management most my adult life spending the past 10 as a independent bread distributor. In my job capacity now it takes me all over the city I work with managers ,vendors ,and other distributors representing most of our retail , grocery and transportation companies on a daily basis .
Would you support allocating more state funds to help DACA recipients to help with higher education?
I would fully support this . Education is the key to success and if I could help young people achieve there dreams through education then I am all for it .
How will the state fight the growing issue of homelessness that is increasing in our communities and use funds to expand on shelters for these community members?
Number 1 you have to identify the problem . A big percentage of our homeless are drug addicts which means to me that meth today is our biggest cause to our growing homeless problem . First thing we need to do is start cracking down on the drug dealers . For instance in Sunrise Manor we have a big population of homeless with the majority being drug addicts now there are no shelters or soup kitchens up here so what that tells me is there source of drugs are nearby . So if we were to start eradicating that drug source invest in recovery ,mental health and job training we could hope to start making a dent in the problem . There is no easy fix to this problem I understand that but I also understand that we need to start addressing these issues today .
Nevada has historically protected the right to abortion, including protecting the right in statute 30 years ago by a vote of the people. However, there remain barriers to access in the state. Do you support not only the right to abortion but policies that improve equitable access to abortion care?
On a personal level I believe in the right to life but I would support what the residents of Nevada support .
The state of Nevada is facing an unprecedented shortage of health care providers – a problem that impacts every area of medicine, including the provision of sexual and reproductive care. Do you support removing the physician-only requirement and allowing advanced practice clinicians (APCs) to provide this vital care to patients with training and certification?
I would fully support this as long as they were fully trained and certified .
It is well documented that patients of color face greater obstacles to obtaining sexual and reproductive health care than non-Hispanic white Americans – a pattern that results in worse health outcomes overall for BIPOC patients. Do you not only acknowledge systemic racism’s role in public health disparities but will you pursue policies that seek to rectify the historical harm of systemic racism and advance equitable access to health care?
I do not have enough information to acknowledge systemic racisms role in public health disparities . But I personally know of the disparities of poor and rich in public health . being a working man my whole life barely making it week to week many years i had no insurance and you are treated different you do not receive the same care . I had a stroke 2 years ago valley hospital saved me and were tremendous I walked out of the hospital 5 days later with no complications but I often think about what if I did not have insurance would I be walking today ? its scary to think about . I support that all Nevadans have equitable access to health care .
Knowing that the death penalty is exorbitantly expensive, racially discriminatory, and does not promote true healing for victims family members, do you support its abolition and do you think ending the death penalty is a crucial part of criminal justice reform?
Personally I do not believe I have the right to decide if you die so I do not support the death penalty for that reason among many others including the cost ,length of time it takes and most importantly how long it takes and the emotional roller coaster the victims families go through year after year ,appeal after appeal in short if you are not going to use it lose it .
True Colors United, a national organization that implements innovative solutions to youth homelessness that focus on the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ young people continues to rate Nevada as critically low, for its State Index on Youth Homelessness (in collaboration with the National Homelessness Law Center) that ranks and scores laws and policies related to preventing and addressing youth homelessness in the United States. Are you willing to support legislation that helps to fund and provide oversight regulations to youth homelessness services?
I fully support helping our homeless youth . To me this is a critical time to step in and help young people in this situation are demoralized and confused and need support in this crucial time not only to help with there current situation but to have some positive experiences in walking through there troubles with the help of the community it teaches them to reach out for help when in trouble helps to build character and a trust in your community .
Anti-transgender bills are being introduced across the United States that attempt to prevent trans people from having access to health care, gender reassignment surgery, and access to sports in schools. Do you support transgender equality and access to healthcare and an athletic school experience?
I support the right for all Nevadans to have access to healthcare . As for gender reassignment to me that is a personal decision and a elective surgery which should be paid for by the patient . As far as sports in school that is a tricky one because in one aspect its unfair for the transgender person but its also unfair for instance say in girls sports . we are seeing all over the country transgender males in women sports shattering records and I often think of all the work and effort the girls put into there craft/sport and how its unfair to them as well . it reminds me when I was 14 I joined a football team . I did not know at the time but it was 12 and younger . I was twice the size of everyone else and in 3 games I dominated everyone after the 3rd game they realized my age and I got kicked off the team because my age and size advantage was unfair to everyone else . I want all of our children regardless of race or sex to have a positive, fun and memorable time in school and I would not want to deny anyone a right to sports but we need to consider all the players .
We have seen rental rates increasing at a very alarming rate, in some instances upwards of 30%. How do you see the Nevada Legislature taking action to keep Nevadans in their homes and not being priced out?
Cut property taxes make it easier on the landlords so in turn they make it easier on the renter .
Nevada has one of the largest shares of federal public land of any state in the country, providing important wildlife habitat, places to hunt, camp, fish and hike, and acting as the foundation of a billion dollar outdoor industry. Even so, some lawmakers have promoted policies that seek wholesale transfer of federal ownership of our national lands to states. A) Would you support or oppose these land transfer policies? B) Would should the State of Nevada’s role be in the management and ownership of federal land?
I need to study this more before i give a answer . i would be for State ownership but can we afford to manage them ?
State investments in conservation provide resources for a wide range of public benefit, like the management of wildlife and state land, and the creation and maintenance of trails and other recreational facilities. In 2019, the Legislature approved $217 million of bonding authority for conservation purposes, including for the acquisition of land for new state parks. A) Do you support or oppose state investment in conservation? B) Has Nevada’s investment in land conservation been too little, too much, or about right, and how would you change it?
I support investment in conservation and i believe the State has done a good job I would like to see more investment in lower income areas (parks ,trails ect. )
Would you support addressing public health disparities in Nevada’s diverse Spanish speaking population by funding a “Promotores de Salud” program through the Nevada Office of New Americans that provides year round, culturally competent education and community engagement in Spanish on public health issues?
I would support this .
What are you doing to center communities of color and low-income communities in your work, and how do you ensure that equity is part of every decision you make?
Education is the key our schools are horrible especially in lower income areas 49th in the country do I need to say more . I believe if you improve the Education system you will improve these communities and give children hope for a future . I support breaking down the school district here in Clark county into smaller districts so they can address the needs of there districts easier . If elected I would serve The people to the best of my ability and every decision I make would be in the best interest of all Nevadans .
The APIA community faces the largest unmet financial needs when it comes to higher education. Nevada has the highest student loan default rate in the country. In Nevada, there are 333,100 student loan borrowers, $11.5 Billion in student loan debt, and $34,700 in average debt per borrower. What policies can we implement to ensure students and families are protected from predatory lenders and undue financial burdens?
decline to answer at this time .
Latinx communities are extremely concerned about the drought and ongoing water shortages. What would you do to ensure our families have a sustainable water supply, not just now but also future generations?
This issue concerns me quite a bit . As i said my job takes me all over the city and i see new houses and other projects going on all across the city . Now i am all for growth and prosperity but with the current water crisis we are in it makes me wonder if we are putting enough thought into the future effect on the water supply. To my knowledge as it was explained to me the water we use in our homes is 75% recyclable . Now there is a 25% waste in every home which means more homes more water waste . I would want to look into future growth future projected water supply and go from there . I would need more information to determine exactly what I would do but i would lean towards slowing growth if asked today.
One out of seven people in Clark County are food insecure. What policies would you propose to ensure people are not residing in food deserts and have access to healthy food and water sources?
In the environment we live in everyone should have access to basic food and water needs . I would want to look into the policies in place and see how we can improve them and go from there . I know there are many great organizations and people that help across the city and there task is enormous so I would refrain from proposing any policies without consulting with them and evaluating there needs .
